    When our co-founders Nishes Shrestha & Suman Shrestha met for dinner one night in 2003, they weren’t looking for any new opportunities but stumbled on one they hadn’t considered before. Suman noticed Nishes’ dog happily chewing on a piece of Churpi: Himalayan hard cheese that is preserved utilizing centuries-old techniques still practiced today by the people of Nepal. It was the same cheese that Suman used to enjoy at home in Nepal. With Nishes’ help, they were inspired to utilize the same cultural technique to make a high-quality chew for dogs. Over the course of four years, the team carried out extensive research to discover how to remove lactose from the cheese and create the desired texture to craft an innovative chew made just for dogs. It wasn’t long before all of their hard work was validated. When they attended a pet fair in Bellingham, WA in September of 2007, the Himalayan Dog Chew® sold out almost immediately. A new category within the pet space was born!
